Daily Meditator: June-July 2008
Dear Meditator,
“In teaching meditation,” Swami Kriyananda said, “people speak of the need to calm the mind. In fact, it is the heart that needs to be calmed. That is why devotion is fundamental to success in meditation. When the heart is calm and one-pointed in its focus on God, the mind is also still, because there are no restless feelings to disturb it.”
If we want to meditate deeply, we must quiet the ego’s tendency to seek outwardly for its fulfillment. The more the heart is purified of desires, the easier and more rewarding we’ll find meditation to be. “Wherever your heart is, there will your mind be also.” – Paramhansa Yogananda.
Featured this month in the Daily Meditator are excerpts on meditation selected from Swami Kriyananda’s new book, In Divine Friendship: Letters of Counsel and Reflection.
A newspaper reporter once asked Swami Kriyananda why so many people love him. Kriyananda’s answer was, “Perhaps it’s because I love them.” In this book of letters written to friends, students, and total strangers, Swami Kriyananda lovingly guides the reader to a more expansive understanding of the spiritual path and its principles.
Many of us would welcome the opportunity to live with a great saint and receive his guidance. In Divine Friendship offers you an opportunity to receive this kind of guidance through the nearly 250 letters Swami Kriyananda has written to people about numerous aspects of the spiritual life.
In this issue:
May your heart shine ever more brightly with the love of God.

In Divine Joy,
Bharat Cornell
